About

I started this blog as a place to collect and store the info I discover along my everyday work as an IT Engineer. Posts may be sporadic and have no real flow…but what in the IT world does?

My name is Ryan Johnston and I’m currently working as a Senior Systems Engineer for leading data protection company. I’ve been in the IT industry for about 15 years now, starting from tech support to an IT Consultant to where I am now. My skill set is very broad, and it lets me assist my customers in the best way possible no matter the technology they utilize. My day-to-day work consists of helping my customers efficiently and effectively use Veeam and its entire product portfolio, I often have to document processes and test new ways to help them. This is where the idea for the blog came from, so I can document my new ways of utilizing the technology, or to outline an entire process that may be foreign to some people.

I’ve always had an interest in technology, and my work at an MSP exposed me to many different types. While my current focus is Data Protection and Disaster Recovery, I have many other areas of expertise. Hypervisors (vSphere, Hyper-V, Nutanix, Proxmox to name a few), Hyper-scalers (Azure, AWS, GCP), Storage Systems, and all other basic sysadmin that go along with Windows and Linux are areas that I have vast experience in.

My current relevant certifications include: VMware VCP-DCV, VMware VCIX-DCV, Veeam VMCE and VMCA, Azure AZ-900 and AZ-104.
